My earliest memory is of playing outdoor hockey on a rink in Chateauguay Quebec. All the neighbourhood parents would stay out late flooding while it dipped to -20 Celsius and we would wake up to a beautiful clean sheet of white ice. My fathers tradition like so many others embodies an iconic Canadian ritual. There is organized hockey, in rinks and arenas and then there are the ponds and backyards where hockey is meant for pure fun, all ages and all skill levels. The outdoor rink is also a place where creative talent is born and nurtured, it is where so many who have gone on to greatness got their start. It's where we grew up and its deep in my blood.
