Mom and Dad loved old things, items that told a story, that held history. In 1972 they opened "The Little Barn Antiques" after moving from Toronto to Cavan Ontario.
Life doesn't prepare us for immediate and unexpected change.
When Dad passed suddenly Feb 2020 we were deeply mourning him. Then a few weeks later - Covid. We switched modes and became the safe keepers of our Mother who was now living alone (and didn't drive) in our old rural family house. My sister and I were determined to keep Mom safe and yet we knew that being locked up would be terrible. So, we took Mom for drives.
We drove on country roads around our hometown, down to Lake Ontario, over to Lake Simcoe, east to Madoc and as far north as Bancroft.
We shared small adventures, spotting animals and discovering second hand stores, meeting eccentrics, street prophets and shopkeepers.
Photography allows me to see beauty in things I might pass by. It forces me to engage with the nuances of this interesting world and appreciate Mom with Family and Strangers.
Heres to the local road trip.
